Vietnam will test its digital ID with Singapore and Laos at two airports
A government decision links VNeID with Singpass and LAeID in a pilot at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, a first step towards identity that works across ASEAN borders.

Vietnam has formally approved plans to connect its VNeID digital identity with Singapore's Singpass and Laos's LAeID. Decision No. 1830/QD-TTg, signed on 22 September, starts with airport pilots before any wider rollout across South-East Asia.
The pilots will run at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. They will test whether identity data from the three systems can cut repeated declarations, shorten checks and lower costs for travellers.
A tight timetable
Vietnamese agencies are to agree procedures and technical arrangements with Singapore and Laos by 30 October, and to complete test connections and integration checks by 15 November. Pilot operation and evaluation follow during 2026 and later years.
The work runs in both directions: procedures for a traveller presenting Singpass or LAeID at a Vietnamese checkpoint, and for Vietnamese citizens using VNeID in Singapore or Laos. Each government needs a legal basis to recognise and verify the others' credentials, as well as the technical interfaces and security checks, as VietnamPlus reports.
